Dr. Justin T. Brown

Director at Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies

Dr. Justin T. Brown is the new Executive Director of the Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS) and an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences at LaGuardia Community College. Dr. Brown’s background focuses on program development and intervention evaluation. Justin’s collaborative research focuses on addressing health inequities through asset-based strategies, primarily with LGBTQ youth of color. Some of Dr. Brown’s additional work currently includes being the Program Evaluator for The BxCRRB's Community Engaged Research Academy PCORI Eugene Washington Engagement Award #3422 and a board member of the Manhattan-Staten Island Area Health Education Center (MSI-AHEC) in addition to participation in various professional organizations. Prior to his new position with CLAGS, Brown was the Deputy Director of the CUNY Institute for Health Equity (CIHE) and worked in the non-profit sector as the program director for the one of the only national LGBTQ-youth of color social service agencies. Brown completed his doctoral training with a health concentration in the Critical Social-Personality Psychology program at the CUNY Graduate Center and will be graduating this Spring with a Master’s of Public Health in Health Policy and Management from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. With his time at CLAGS, Dr. Brown hopes to build on the legacy of the organization and aims to continue working toward a more sustainable future. ​
