Jordan Weiss
President of Diversity In Action
Jordan Weiss, president of Diversity in Action magazine, co-founded and oversees the digital and print publication focused on diversity in the science, technology, engineering and arts/agriculture (STEAM) fields. Through its coverage of initiatives at companies, government agencies, universities and in the community, the magazine is designed to encourage and inspire its diverse readers on all levels to get involved in STEAM and build successful careers in these growing areas.
Jordan’s eclectic career has encompassed the worlds of music and startups as well. He grew up in the metro New York area as a hip-hop enthusiast with a deep appreciation of the genre’s culture. He has a master’s in music technology from NYU and a bachelor’s from UMASS, Amherst, where he majored in psychology and minored in film studies. His music production and sound design work has been featured on networks including NBC, CBS, MTV, VH1, Discovery Channel and Food Network, and in independent films such as “Estilo Hip Hop,” which was part of the PBS Global Voices series.
Previously, Jordan worked for two internet startups during the dotcom boom, as well as in corporate sales for the staffing industry. For 10 years, he was advertising sales director for Diversity/Careers magazine, a publication for tech professionals and students in minority groups. In his years there, he developed an in-depth understanding of diversity in the workplace and in higher education, and he found a way to combine his enthusiasm for multiculturalism with his natural talent for sales and promotion.
