MyUmbrella

For members of the LGBTQ+ community who are looking for a creative outlet, MyUmbrella is an online platform that amplifies our journeys and shared experiences. Unlike other platforms, we invite members of the community who want to share their stories the opportunity to do so, by joining our Writers Cohort. Their published work reminds us all that we’re not alone as we think we are.

Across the world, there are members of the LGBTQ+ community that do not have a support system around them or an outlet to express themselves. This is exacerbated by the pandemic as people are living in isolation or sheltered in place with less than accepting families. People are looking for ways to build community and express themselves. Further, there are queer artists across all mediums that don’t have the confidence or resources to share their work with the world. We are the platform that not only amplifies their work but also helps them hone their craft.

We are a for-profit organization with a social mission: both to share the stories of the queer community but to fundamentally shift the way individual contributors are compensated. We believe the Medium, Spotify and Youtube model is broken and benefits the organization rather than the content creators. We have developed a sponsorship model designed to facilitate a profit-sharing program with our writers based on a pro-rata basis by the traffic their articles drive. The better we do as an organization, the more we can compensate our contributors.
