Simone Sloan

November 18 @ 10:00AM ET

Leadership , communication, and being in relationship are key to Trust and Power. In this session, these concepts were explored to accomplish the following:
● Create shared vocabulary for change - trust, power, success, value, confidence, fear, love, or ambition.
● Define limitation of power - what are moments where you felt powerless, when are moments that you sought to undermine someone else’s power, and identifying the motivator behind each.
● Explore the nature of presence, listening, and authentic expression - how do you “show up” as an individual, a leader, and a changemaker.
● Explore the social relationship of how we perceive and interact with power - how do you react when confronted with someone attempting to undermine your power and how do you relate to someone you perceive holds greater power than you?

Genevieve Smith

November 18 @ 11:00AM ET

Are you interested in responsible innovation for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)? Do you support research and development of AI and ML systems that learn from and use human language?

As the use of AI and ML systems that learn from and using human language continue to grow across industries, we must understand how they can reinforce harmful biases. More, we must dare to build and leverage them to tackle racial inequities in society. In this interactive workshop, you will (a) learn about the links between language, power, race, and AI; and (b) delve into good leadership practices to advance responsible language in AI and ML.

Using language that supports racial equity and inclusion within AI and ML systems can promote positive norms and lead to a more inclusive product experience, while also better reflecting a company’s mission, ethical principles, and responsible innovation commitments.

The Power of Film and Video on D&I Training and Awareness

Julio Marmol Corbacho

November 18 @ 2:00PM ET

Join FilmDoo´s DooDiversity team to learn how the use of film and video can empower D&I initiatives.

We believe that film and video bring a crucial layer of emotion and empathy to the learning process that is key to any long-term, meaningful changes in attitude. Films immerse us in new environments and cultures, introducing new perspectives in a way that brings the modern day issues of Diversity & Inclusion to life. During this workshop, participants will experience the power of film by participating in two interactive games, covering the topics of Gender and sexual diversity, faith and spirituality and mental health.

Film can also serve as a great basis for open conversations on what are sometimes difficult topics, giving people a middle ground and a common starting point for people to express themselves. In the process courses become not just educational, but memorable.

Workshop participants will also be invited to engage in a discussion about the importance of engagement and “alternative” methods and channels of D&I training so as to create real awareness, be able to provide relatable examples and start a safe and comfortable conversation around the topic.

Creating Intersectional and Inclusive Workplaces Through Co-design and Immersive Technologies

Sarah Liyanage-Denney

November 18 @ 3:30PM ET

Intersectional and inclusive cultures are centred on trust; it only takes one person to shift the dynamic.

Sarah, founder of KINSPACE and Rick, founder of Equal Reality will guide a conversation around ways to interrupt assumptions and navigate blind spots. You’ll explore an intersectional lens in which people are not viewed as a problem to fix, but instead how a trusted relationship can be developed between individuals.

We’ll look at how to shrink problems that seem too big to tackle, to ones that each can contribute to, by reframing the question from ‘how can I fix this problem?’; to ‘How might I be contributing to this problem?’

Finally, we’ll unpack the powerful roles co-design and immersive tech play in enabling greater authenticity, reach, and scale of quality learning experiences. In doing so, we demonstrate how they help people better relate to others and rebalance power dynamics across the workforce.
